If Clause หรือ Condition Sentence หมายถึงประโยคที่แสดงหรือกำหนดเงื่อนไข ขึ้นในเวลาที่่ต่างๆ กัน
แต่เวลาที่พูดนั้นเกิดขึ้นใน ขณะปัจจุบันรูปกริยาที่ต่างกันใน If-clauseเป็นเพียงตัวบ่งให้ทราบว่าเป็น เงื่อนไขแบบใดเท่านั้น
ประโยค If-clause (ประโยคเงื่ืี่่อนไข)
จะประกอบด้วย
1. ส่วนที่เป็นเงื่อนไข (If Clause)
2. ส่วนที่เป็นข้อความหลัก (Main Clause)
Conditional Sentences แบ่งออกเป็น 3 ชนิด คือ
1. TYPE
ONE เป็นการสมมติถึงเหตุการณ์ในปัจจุบันหรืออนาคต แสดงเงื่อนไขที่น่าจะเป็นไปได้ (possible condition)
If + Present Simple , Future Simple
(if-clause) (main clause)
Ex : If he goes to London , he will meet his old friend.
2. TYPE TWO เป็นการสมมติในปัจจุบันที่บอกความสงสัย
(doubt)
แสดงเงื่อนไขที่ไม่น่าจะเป็นไปได้ (impossible
condition)
If + Past Simple ,
S + would + V1

Ex : If I were you , I would go to study abroad.
3. TYPE
THREE เป็นการสมมติในอดีต
แสดงเงื่อนไขที่ไม่อาจเป็นไปได้เลย และตรงกันข้ามกับความเป็นจริงในอดีต
If + Past Perfect
, S+would/should + have +V3

Ex : If I had known your arrival , I would have met you at the airport.
Ex : If you had gone to party last night , you would have seen your girlfriend

Sentences จะขึ้นต้นด้วยประโยค If-Clause หรือ
Main Clause ก็ได้
เช่น
If I had some money , I would go abroad.
I would go abraod if I had some money.
**นอกจากคำว่า if แล้ว
ยังมีคำอื่นๆที่ใช้ในประโยคเงื่อนไข ได้แก่
-suppose หรือ supposing = สมมุติว่า
-on condition that หรือ on the condition that = โดยมีเงื่อนไขว่า
-so long as หรือ
as long as = ถ้า, ตราบใดที่
- what if = สมมุติว่า
If Clause
การจะจำ If Clause ให้ได้ทั้ง 3 แบบให้จำเป็นประโยคไปเลยจะง่ายกว่า
